FAMILY OCEAN RETREAT NESTLED IN THE HEART OF MIAMI BEACH
D Apartment, South Beach
This project entailed creating open spaces with breathtaking views while providing privacy for a family of five. Each space connects visually through a series of glass panels thinly framed, infusing a harmonious rhythm throughout. Beautiful fine linen draperies keep the bedrooms private when needed. The use of natural and earthy materials such as raw slabs of wood, linen fabrics and a hand-made finish microcement all combined to offer a rich tactile experience, keeping a strong bond with nature present throughout the home.
The challenge with the tall glass panels was to keep the focus on the views and not on these strong design features that would distract from the main event, the ocean. The idea became to overlap a horizontal element to guide the eyes to the ocean. This solid slab of walnut crafted by George Nakashima has great proportions to be used as a bench while accentuating the perspective towards the view.
As an element of support for the bench, our talented client crafted a ball of rope. The curves softens the straight lines and the natural rope contrasts beautifully with the black steel of the glass panels.
